Vitamin D deficiency, brittle bones abound

Note: If you are outside during the summer months, vitamin D supplementation is optional. However, during the darker and colder months, vitamin D supplementation is vital for everyone. I highly recommend Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil during these times. It's from fish that live in clean waters, and it also supplements the Omega 3 fatty acids. Vitamin D is also showing to be important for prevention of many types of cancer and in helping to prevent multiple sclerosis.

In all regions of the world, more than half of postmenopausal women with the crippling bone disease osteoporosis are vitamin D deficient, regardless of age, latitude or season, researchers from US, the Netherlands and UK said here last week at the 11th World Congress on the Menopause. According to the investigators, 'These results underscore the need to improve physician and patient awareness of the importance of adequate vitamin D supplementation in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.'

See the posting above called "Prospects for Vitamin D" and watch the lecture about it. Very eye-opening, and living in Southern California we probably don't get enought vitamin D in the cooler and darker months.
