Low-Dose Exposure to Organochlorines and Mercury Affects Thyroid Status during Pregnancy 

Comment: Yet another reason why eating organic is so important.

Low levels of exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), certain pesticides, and mercury can interfere with thyroid hormone levels during pregnancy, according to a study accepted for publication today by the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Health Perspectives. The study focuses on the impact of low environmental exposure to these toxicants during pregnancy. According to the authors, even these low exposures can affect thyroid function and 'can present a major hazard for human reproduction.
