When modern medical treatments cause almost as much discomfort as the condition they're intended to ease, what is a physician to do? For Dr. Robert Woolf, a former emergency room physician, the solution was to look to complimentary medicine, where he found some answers in the practice of acupuncture.
'I developed an interest in ways of doing things other than pharmaceutical stuff all the time, because when you work in the ER a lot of the things you come in contact with are side-effects from medications that these people are on,' said Dr. Woolf. 'I used to think to myself, 'There has to be a better way to deal with some of these things besides this kind of treatment.' '
